Kananaskis Golf Course(s)
After wrapping things up at Cabot Cliffs for the season I headed back West to help out with the efforts at Kananaskis Golf Course(s) before the winter weather settled in. After the devastating floods of 2013, the Government has committed $18-million to restore the flood damaged 36-hole mountain golf duo. The link below has photos of the flood damage from the air:
Debris clean-up had been going on for a few months prior to my arrival and the restorative shaping process had already begun. Only 35 minutes from my hometown of Canmore and the Integrative Golf office, this was a welcoming opportunity to say the least.
The courses themselves are situated in some of the most dramatic and awe-inspiring mountain landscape found anywhere in the world. For those not familiar with K-Country, below is an excerpt from their website.
"Kananaskis Country Golf Course is one of the premier golf destinations in the Canadian Rockies and second to none as a spectacular location for a golf vacation. Forming an unforgettable landscape, the rugged surrounding mountains tower 10,000 feet (3,000 metres) above sea level, the courses themselves are at almost 5,000 feet (1,500 metres). Situated in the Kananaskis Valley among boreal forest, the Mount Lorette and Mount Kidd Courses are named for the soaring limestone peaks that serve as their breathtaking backdrop. The Courses offer immaculate lush fairways, bent grass greens, over 140 silica sand bunkers, four sets of tee boxes, glacier fed creeks and ponds, the cascading Kananaskis River and a variety of wildlife."
Next season will be a big one and hopefully see the complete restoration of the Lorette course and a large portion of the Kidd course - weather permitting. The Kananaskis river will also be re-shaped and armoured to help protect against future flood events. Below are some photos of the progress thus far and the amazing site that Kananaskis is.
