Rolling Green Golf Club
William Flynn Restoration
Springfield, PA
Rolling Green Golf Club has a rich and enviable history and remains to this day one of Philadelphia’s most well preserved and hidden golf gems. The history of the Club dates back to early 1920’s, but the golf course itself was formally designed and built by renowned golf architect William S. Flynn in 1925, and opened for play in 1926.
In 2018, Riley Johns partnered with Keith Rhebb of Rhebb Golf Design to begin guiding the restoration and course improvement efforts at Rolling Green Golf Club. Johns and Rhebb were tasked with assembling a comprehensive Long Range Restoration Master Plan that focuses on restoring the genuine intent of William Flynn’s 1926 design, its features, and the courses original character and personality. Furthermore, the Club requested forward thinking recommendations from the duo to assist with enhancing and improving every aspect of the golf course property and its related facilities.
In late 2018, a one-hole construction pilot program was initiated and the 6th hole, a par 3, was restored. The remaining restoration work will be carried out in phases over the next several years, beginning with tree management efforts in 2019 & 2020.
